Designing qualitative and quantitative research:

The research team at Reveal has competencies in designing research protocols and tools for qualitative and quantitative research. The team has expertise and experience designing and conducting Baseline surveys, evaluations and KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice) studies in the Health (Family planning, Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV), Gender and Violence, Migration, Education, Energy and the Judicial sectors. The team also has expertise and experience doing research with refugees, migrants, children, youth and Adolescents.

Technical knowledge and experience in sampling design:

With vast knowledge and experience in designing surveys, the core team at Reveal is able to provide market-leading expertise in sampling methodology for all types of surveys, and in the specific contexts of the target populations in which we carry out research. Reveal works closely with the client to come up with the most feasible survey design in light with the client needs, target audience and available resources without sacrificing validity and reliability of data to be collected.

Local expertise and Knowledge of local context:

Having conducted numerous studies in Uganda, the team of researchers at Reveal has gathered invaluable insights on the local contexts across different regions in Uganda. Insights which are useful during the planning and implementation of research. We also have on the ground research capacity of team leaders, supervisors and interviewers who are well versed with the local languages, environments and cultural intricacies- a key factor which enables us to train, brief and implement surveys in a relatively short period of time.

Training of enumerators:

All research and data assistants complete training before the main data collection.  The training can be collaboratively conducted with the client. This usually includes days of classroom training, pretest, debrief and a day for supervisors and Quality controllers training. The objective for the training is usually to induct field interviewers about the project (goal, objectives and intervention scope), study objectives, research methodology, the structure of the study instruments, their roles, principles and procedures related to human subject protections, data management procedures and other practical aspects relating to the study, as per the approved protocol. All the field procedures are practically demonstrated to ensure that the field staff fully understand what is required of them. The trainings include role-playing and conducting mock interviews. Potential problems and queries are addressed at this stage. Trainings are usually held in a central place in Kampala – the capital city. Days and place for training can be determined by the client’s preferences.

Managing collection for quantitative and qualitative research:

Reveal provides market-leading expertise for both quantitative and qualitative data collection with a range different stakeholder. Reveal is well versed with the technicalities involved in data collection owing to its experienced team of research of over 10 years’ experience in the market. Reveal has developed a core team enumerators, moderators, transcribers, translators and recruiters in different regions of the country. These teams have experience in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research. Every project is managed by a coordinator, manager and a data manager. These are supported by a team of data validators, field supervisors and enumerators. Our standard measures to ensure quality include quality recruitment criteria, training of enumerators, in-class and field tests, accompanying interviews, spot checks, back checks, daily data validation, debriefs and updates.

Experience with obtaining local and national ethics approval:

In Uganda, Research requires authorization from a local Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Uganda National Council for Science and technology (UNCST) at a national level. Reveal is familiar with the processes required by several accredited organizations. Reveal has good relationships with these stakeholders and understands the process involved in acquiring authorization. We have overtime secured ethical clearance and permission for several studies in Uganda.

Computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI):

Reveal has tapped into technology to ensure we offer our clients high quality standards, efficiency and intelligence. For all quantitative surveys, Reveal makes effort that administering questionnaires is done by tablets and mobile phones, which eliminates subsequent data entry and allows for data to be uploaded onto a central cloud server immediately after completion of an interview. Devices are additionally able to stream audio/video and receive GPS coordinates automatically for mapping purposes. This technology enables us to get real-time data, live streaming and real time monitoring of fieldwork progress and quality. Automatic routing on the mobile data collection platform also ensures higher quality data.
